Production of mannitol from inulin by simultaneous enzymatic saccharification and fermentation with Lactobacillus intermedius NRRL B-3693
نویسنده
چکیده
The production of mannitol by Lactobacillus intermedius NRRL B-3693 using inulin as a substrate was investigated at pH 5.0 and 37 ◦C. The bacterium produced mannitol (106.2± 0.3 g l−1) from dilute acid hydrolyzate (pH 2.0, 121 ◦C, 15 min) of inulin (150 g l−1) in 34 h. It also produced mannitol from inulin by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) at pH 5.0 and 37 ◦C using inulinase (8 U g−1 substrate). F 6 t h P

Production of mannitol by Lactobacillus intermedius NRRL B-3693 in fed-batch and continuous cell-recycle fermentations
Improved fermentation processes were developed for the production of mannitol by a heterofermentative lactic acid bacterium (Lactobacillus intermedius NRRL B-3693). A fed-batch fermentation protocol overcame limitations caused by high substrate concentrations. The process was developed using corn steep liquor and glucose as inexpensive industrial nutrient sources, supplemented with a small amou...

The simultaneous effects of inulin addition (0-4%w/w), probiotic inoculum level (1-3%v/v) and fermentation temperature (37-45°C) on the dynamic rheological properties of probiotic non-fat yogurt were studied using response surface methodology. Frequency sweep tests were performed to measure structure strength and type of structure. Linear viscoelastic range in term of strain (LVE), structure st...
متن کاملEfficient simultaneous saccharification and fermentation of inulin to 2,3-butanediol by thermophilic Bacillus licheniformis ATCC 14580.
2,3-Butanediol (2,3-BD) is an important starting material for the manufacture of bulk chemicals. For efficient and large-scale production of 2,3-BD through fermentation, low-cost substrates are required. One such substrate, inulin, is a polydisperse fructan found in a wide variety of plants. In this study, a levanase with high inulinase activity and high pH and temperature stability was identif...
متن کاملProduction of high concentrations of ethanol from inulin by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation using Aspergillus niger and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Pure nonhydrolyzed inulin was directly converted to ethanol in a simultaneous saccharification and fermentation process. An inulinase-hyperproducing mutant, Aspergillus niger 817, was grown in a submerged culture at 30 degrees C for 5 days. The inulin-digestive liquid culture (150 ml) was supplemented with 45 g of inulin, 0.45 g of (NH4)2SO4, and 0.15 g of KH2PO4. The medium (pH 5.0) was inocul...
متن کاملEnzyme-based Hydrolysis Processes for Ethanol from Lignocellulosic Materials: a Review
This article reviews developments in the technology for ethanol production from lignocellulosic materials by “enzymatic” processes. Several methods of pretreatment of lignocelluloses are discussed, where the crystalline structure of lignocelluloses is opened up, making them more accessible to the cellulase enzymes. The characteristics of these enzymes and important factors in enzymatic hydrolys...
